When a benefactor asked one of our long-serving sisters why, at her age and with painful arthritic knees, she continued to serve at a struggling but excellent school, she answered, “Because God loves me, and I love Him, and I want these children to discover this love.”
We are passionately committed to Catholic education. Catholic school students outperform students at New York City public schools in math by 2.2 percentage points and reading by 3.6 percentage points. Research shows that a Catholic education is the most effective means—after the family—to religious formation. We must continue our two-century legacy of excellent private, faith-based, character-forming education in New York.
Our schools, like our parishes, each have their own needs related to providing a safe space for children to grow and learn. Some buildings are in dire need of repairs. The interest from a $10 million endowment will assist with necessary repairs and enhancements to our regional elementary schools, and a second endowment of $8 million will be established to assist our Catholic High School Association (CHSA).
